MSL has been at the forefront of fire protection for over 40 years. From humble beginnings as a small company serving just a handful of clients—including offshore and dry-dock light vessels, both offshore and on the mainland—we’ve grown into a trusted provider of advanced fire detection and suppression systems across the UK and Europe.

In the early days, fire safety technology was basic. A typical system consisted of break-glass call points and bells, with few buildings using automated detection. One of our first major projects in 1985 saw us replace 50 “rat-cage” heat detectors in a live warehouse with modern beam detection. By 1986, as financial deregulation spurred rapid development, Halon suppression systems became the standard in data rooms and offices—especially across the City of London.

Our first suppression system featured a traditional wooden fire alarm panel and a “coincidence unit,” with field devices wired in MICC cable—a skill few still possess today.

Demonstrations often involved full discharges of Halon gas, followed by gas analysis and system recharges, long before environmental impacts were considered.

Today, the industry has evolved—and so have we. MSL now delivers a wide range of services in critical environments including major data centres, hospitals, and broadcast facilities.
